Contents Restoration Guide

Electronics Restoration & Data Recovery

Water-damaged electronics are NOT necessarily destroyed — but powering them on is. Professional restoration can save devices that look ruined, and even when hardware can't be saved, your data often can be.

First-Hour Priorities

What to do immediately

Step 1

DO NOT power on any wet or smoke-damaged device

This is the single most important rule. Turning on a water-exposed device causes short circuits that destroy components which could otherwise be professionally cleaned and restored. Remove batteries if possible.

Step 2

Unplug everything from power sources

Even devices that weren't directly damaged should be unplugged to prevent electrical surges. Smoke and soot residue on circuit boards can cause shorts when current flows through them.

Step 3

Do NOT put electronics in rice

This common advice doesn't work and can make things worse. Rice dust can contaminate ports and connectors. Professional drying in HEPA-filtered chambers is the only effective method.

Step 4

Record serial numbers and model information

Document device makes, models, and serial numbers for insurance purposes. Photograph the condition of each device, including visible damage.

Circuit board cleaning and electronics restoration

Circuit Board Cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaning removes moisture, corrosion, and soot particles from circuit boards and connectors without mechanical damage.

Ultrasonic cleaning tank for small electronics

Ultrasonic Cleaning Process

Small components and connectors are cleaned in specialized ultrasonic baths that reach areas impossible to clean manually.

Secure electronics storage facility

Secure Assessment Lab

Our controlled environment prevents static damage and contamination during the assessment and cleaning process.

Restoration Process

How professional restoration works

Each step is documented, tracked, and aligned with insurance requirements to ensure your belongings receive proper care.

Assessment & Triage

Each device is opened in our controlled environment. We inspect circuit boards, connectors, and components for corrosion, moisture, soot deposits, and heat damage. We determine whether the device, the data, or both can be recovered.

Cleaning & Decontamination

Circuit boards are cleaned using ultrasonic baths with specialized solutions that remove contaminants without damaging components. Connectors are individually cleaned. All residual moisture and soot particles are eliminated.

Controlled Drying & Testing

Components are dried in HEPA-filtered, desiccant-controlled environments. Once verified dry and clean, devices are reassembled and tested incrementally — power supply first, then display, storage, and peripherals.

Data Recovery & Return

If a device cannot be physically restored, we prioritize data recovery. Hard drives, SSDs, and flash storage are imaged in our lab. Recovered data is returned on secure media. Functional devices are returned to you fully tested.

Regional considerations

South Florida

Florida's salt air accelerates corrosion on exposed electronics. Devices near coastal windows or in storm-surge areas need faster treatment — salt water corrosion can begin within hours of exposure.

Charlotte, NC

Humidity fluctuations in North Carolina can cause condensation inside devices stored in uncontrolled environments. Climate-controlled assessment prevents secondary moisture damage.

Hurricane/Storm Areas

After hurricanes, power surges during restoration can damage electronics plugged in during power cycling. Keep devices unplugged until your electrical system has been professionally inspected.
